LivaNova announced that its LivaNova USA subsidiary provided notice to U.S. patients concerning a cybersecurity incident initially revealed on November 20, 2023.
The 2023 incident caused a disruption to part of the company’s information technology systems. LivaNova took some of its systems offline in an attempt to remediate the issue but advised the incident has caused and would continue to cause disruptions to part of its operations.
At the time, the company couldn’t determine the extent of the cybersecurity event’s impact on its business, results of operations, cash flows, or financial condition. The company did, however, discover its systems were first accessed by an unauthorized party on October 26, 2023.
LivaNova disclosed that on April 10, it learned the unauthorized parties gathered some identifiable personal information of U.S. patients. The company is continuing to assess the nature and scope of the affected information but became aware it included data like name, contact information, Social Security number, date of birth, medical information, and health insurance information.
The company posted notice of the incident on its website yesterday. LivaNova is sending notice to the affected patients, which includes information on how they can enroll in complimentary identity protection and credit monitoring services.
The company encouraged affected patients to stay vigilant for incidents of fraud and identity theft by keeping track of account statements and free credit reports. LivaNova also advised remaining alert for unsolicited communications about personal information.
